ABOUT US:

We are the Walker family in Young Harris, Ga. I, Sherry was born and raised in this beautiful part of God's country. My husband, Keith was raised in Kennesaw, Ga.

I grew up with my father being an avid dog lover. He raised and competed in hunts with Red Bone coon hounds. My mother says this is where I got my love of animals.
I have been in the dog "business" for more than 20 years. I raised and showed labrador retrievers in the late eighties as a hobby but also worked outside the home as a business office manager. I worked for 25 years outside the home as a business professional and it is a joke around here that I went from a business professional to a professional "poop-scooper" because that seems to be most all I do now. :)
I gave up the lab breeding business in the mid nineties as my careeer became more and more demanding. It only took a few years and I realized that my life was not complete without having puppies around and not having the excitement of the dog show world. I decided then to pursue my love of the chihuahua breed (my first chi given to me by my grandmother lived to be 19yrs old and he was my best friend while growing up).
I purchased my first "show boy" and it was all over with then! I was hooked! I have been raising and showing chis for 10 years now and am proud to say I have achieved my goal of producing many champions. I even made it to Westminster which is a show breeders ultimate dream.
The dog show business is what made me decide to build Laurel Hill Pet Lodge. With being away from home most every weekend at dog shows, I had to board some of my other pets. The entire time I was away, I was worried sick. Vet's offices specialize in medicine so boarding is just extra income for them. I know they get care there but I just could not stand the cold, wet concrete floors and the "walked outside twice a day" regimen.
I told my husband that someday I wanted to build a facility that I would not only feel comfortable with but would love for my pets to visit. So, the rest is history. We built Laurel Hill Pet Lodge with a homey feel using alot of wood and alot of heart. Each and every room of our facilty was built with my own babies in mind. Tongue-n-groove walls, tiled floors, very large rooms, not runs, windows, TV's, ceiling fans, heat & air. Even the ceiling is painted sky blue with clouds so your pet can look up and feel as if they are looking at the sky. No closed in, caged feel around here!

Keith still works outside the home but when he is here, he is petting, playing ball with, brushing and loving the animals just as I do.
I left my career five years ago to run my passion. Laurel Hill Pet Lodge has been open to the public since May of 2004 and we have many, many loyal customers that I am proud to call friends.

We are the parents of four wonderful children and have nine grand-children and two step grand-children. We have a busy life but love every second of it. We are very involved with our Church and have a wonderful church family.

It is a zoo around here but it is our zoo. Please give us a call and we would be happy to have you over.
